Culturally responsive mental health care is an approach that recognizes and integrates each client’s racial, cultural, and social identity into the therapeutic process, as we recognize that these factors deeply influence how you see the world, how you want to live in it, and how your mental health needs show up. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, it honors the individual’s lived experiences, values, and cultural background—ensuring that care feels relevant, respectful, and effective.
What This Means at Anise Health
At Anise Health, culturally responsive care is core to our mission and model of care. Specifically, this looks like:
Acknowledging cultural context: Our therapists and coaches are trained to understand how culture shapes mental health—such as stigma, family expectations, and identity conflicts. This is especially important in our work with Asian American communities.
Tailoring treatment plans: Interventions are adapted to incorporate culturally familiar practices, values, and communication styles.
Addressing intersectionality: We recognize that identity is multifaceted. Our care model considers how ethnicity, gender, religion, immigration status, language, and family dynamics all intersect and influence mental health.
Improving access and outcomes: Research shows that culturally-adapted care is nearly 5x more effective than generic treatments. At Anise, our data supports this—clients demonstrate higher engagement and greater improvement rates compared to traditional care models.
In Short
Culturally responsive care sees you as more than a diagnosis. It’s about meeting you where you are—clinically, culturally, and personally—so that your care resonates with who you are and how you experience the world. Our goal is to create a safe, affirming, and effective care experience where you feel seen, heard, and understood.

Yes—there is strong evidence that culturally responsive mental health care leads to better outcomes.
Numerous studies have linked cultural sensitivity in care to improved treatment adherence, greater client satisfaction, and stronger health outcomes (Lukoschek, 2003; Rose, Kim, Dennison & Hill, 2000).
One of the most comprehensive studies to date, a meta-analysis of over 14,000 participants, found that:
Culturally adapted mental health interventions are 4.7 times more effective than unadapted or no intervention.
These interventions were associated with improved health outcomes across diverse populations.
Interestingly, patient-therapist ethnic matching had low correlation with clinical outcomes. This means that the key factor is not shared ethnicity, but rather whether the therapist has been trained to deliver culturally adapted interventions with sensitivity and understanding.

What This Means at Anise Health
At Anise, our care model is grounded in this evidence. We believe that mental health care should reflect the lived experiences, cultural values, and social contexts of each individual. That’s why we:
Train all therapists and coaches in culturally responsive practices.
Personalize care plans to integrate culturally familiar frameworks and goals.
Aim to reduce barriers—like stigma, language, or identity-related disconnects—that often prevent individuals from receiving effective care.
We’re committed to making culturally-adapted mental health interventions more accessible while continuously improving our ability to personalize care.

Given our mission to address cultural gaps in traditional mental health care, we are intentionally rolling out services one cultural group at a time. At this stage, our platform is focused on serving eligible adults 18+ who self-identify as Asian American.
This includes individuals from East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander, and mixed-race Asian backgrounds. Our clinical model, digital resources, and provider training have been built with cultural attunement to the Asian American experience in mind.
🌍 What About Other Cultural Backgrounds?
While our current services are centered on Asian American identity, we do not prevent individuals from other backgrounds from signing up. However, we want to be transparent that:
Our therapists and coaches have been trained specifically to address cultural nuances common within Asian American communities
Our resource library are tailored to support identity-related stressors, family dynamics, and values that may be more relevant for this population

At this time, Anise Health primarily offers services in English. However, we do have multilingual providers within our network who may be able to offer support in additional languages on a case-by-case basis.
If receiving care in a language other than English is important to you, we encourage you to reach out to us at support@anisehealth.co so we can explore available options.
We recognize the critical role that language plays in mental health care, especially within immigrant and bicultural communities. Addressing language barriers is a key part of our mission, and we are actively working on building more comprehensive language support into our platform in the future.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to expand access and inclusivity in mental health care.
